Meet Chelsea Lancaster, EOPS/CARE, CalWORKs and SPARC Student Program Advisor, the force behind Single Parents Arriving Ready for College (SPARC). SPARC is SBCC's 6-week summer bridge program for single parent students who are new to college or returning to college and struggling academically.
Earlier this year SPARC received the prestigious Dr. John W. Rice Diversity and Equity Award from the California State Chancellor’s Office. Chelsea was among those who traveled to Sacramento to accept the award. The Chancellor's Office also produced a SPARC promotional video for the Rice Award featuring Chelsea and SPARC student Wendy Aguilera.  Click here to view the video.
In October, the SPARC program was praised in SB Family Life magazine for helping students turn dreams a reality, citing the stories of three single mothers. The article was written by Jon Vreeland, a former SPARC student himself who is now a published author.
