Our Vaqueros have given out a ton of assists this year, whether it be on the court, on the field, or in the classroom.
On April 9, though, some generous members of our Vaquero family gave up their Saturday to give an assist to the community, heading out to Monroe Elementary School to volunteer and help construct bike trails around the campus.
“For today’s volunteer work, we helped beautify the school, and being a part of it was extremely fun!” said SBCC women’s basketball freshman Trinity Scott. “My time spent at Monroe Elementary was very impactful. Growing up, the same opportunities weren’t there for myself, so being a part of today and seeing the smiles on all the kids’ faces was so rewarding.”
Scott worked alongside her Vaquero teammate Janet Arias and some amazing parents, dipping out the grass and making the trail even before gravel could be laid down.
“It's always great to give back to the community,” Arias said. “I wanted to be a part of this because this community, especially during the COVID year, has supported our women’s basketball team so much. So, giving back is something we can all do to thank those who have supported us.”
Also lending a helping hand were members of the SBCC men’s basketball and football teams, including standout quarterback Alex Johnson.
“I want to be a good role model for those around me, giving back to my community and supporting the younger generation,” Johnson said. “I feel like helping my community is the best way to do that, and I feel we helped enhance the children's overall school experience.”
Thank you to all of our Vaquero student-athletes and family for sharing your love and selflessness with the community!
