From the lecture halls of Central to the global stage, Megan has built a career defined by vision, strategy, and international impact. With both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international studies from Central, Torrey has transformed academic insight into a powerful force for global engagement and community development.
Since joining the World Affairs Council of Connecticut in 2003, Megan has risen through the ranks—from Program Director to Executive Director, and now Chief Executive Officer—leading the organization through a period of unprecedented growth and innovation.
Megan has spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives, including the creation of the Global Security Forum, now recognized internationally for its thought leadership in defense and security. She has hosted diplomatic delegations from over 60 countries, facilitated high-level exchanges with global leaders such as Theresa May, President Vicente Fox, and President Lech Welsa and led delegations around the world, connecting Connecticut to the world in tangible, transformative ways.
Her strategic vision has guided the Council through two major organizational transformations, including the acquisition of a similar nonprofit and a nationwide digital pivot during the pandemic that impacted over 90 organizations across the U.S. She has also driven efforts to diversify the Council’s audience, membership, and Board of Directors, ensuring inclusive access to global dialogue.
Before her tenure at the Council, Megan worked with UNESCO’s International Year for the Culture of Peace in Paris and the United Nations International Training Research Institute for the Advancement of Women. Her research interests include inclusive security, women’s roles in post-conflict reconstruction, and citizen participation in foreign policy.
“Central gave me the tools and the confidence to engage with the world. The education I received here shaped the way I think about global issues and inspired me to connect others to that conversation.”
A transformational leader and global impact executive, Megan continues to elevate Connecticut’s role in international affairs. Through her innovative programming, strategic partnerships, and unwavering commitment to global education, she ensures that the state remains informed, engaged, and connected to the world.
