>> FINAL COURSE SCHEDULE - NEW

You should have received an email from the IBEX Team on April 30th with instructions on how to access your Final Course Schedule. If you haven't received it, email us .

Course Schedule Changes
  • As exchange students, you cannot make changes to your schedule yourself.
  • As exchange students, you cannot be waitlisted for classes, only Open classes are accessible to you.
  • We strongly discourage you from making any schedule changes until the semester starts. The only exception is if you need to change a course because your home university has not approved/validated it.
  • You are expected to attend one class before asking to drop a course.
  • NYU's add/drop period ends on September 15th. We strongly recommend you do not add any new course after the first week of classes.
  • During add/drop, you can be enrolled in new Stern courses only.
  • During add/drop, many professors allow students to attend one class before enrolling. We strongly recommend you take advantage of this.
  • Courses cross listed between undergraduate and graduate (coded ****-GB 60**) may have a different, earlier add/drop deadline. They are also not eligible for the Pass/Fail option.
  • You must be enrolled in 12 credits minimum. You can be enrolled in 18 credits maximum.
Once you have identified an Open Stern class that you'd like to be enrolled in, please email us following the email template below. Please note that course schedule modification requests will be processed during our office's business hours: Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm

>> HEALTH INSURANCE - NEW

NYU requires all students to maintain health insurance. All J-1 students are automatically enrolled and billed for the NYU Health Insurance Comprehensive Plan.
  • The price for the NYU Health Insurance Comprehensive Plan can be found here.
  • You will remain enrolled in this plan unless you downgrade to the Basic Plan or are approved for an insurance waiver (see below)
  • Specific NYU health insurance information is available here. We also recommend you review the NYU Health Insurance 101 Presentation.
Health Insurance Waiver
To determine whether your home health insurance is eligible for the waiver, review the criteria and complete the online form by September 30th. Please note that not many students are able to successfully waive out of the NYU plan as very few international insurance plans meet the criteria established by NYU.
Please contact the Student Health Center directly with any questions at (+1) 212-443-1020 or health.insurance@nyu.edu.
If the NYU Health Insurance is waived after you paid the fee, you will be issued a refund (that might be prorated once the semester has started). Information on the refund methods can be found on the Bursar's website.

>> VISAS

Your acceptance letter was emailed to you on March 17 with the subject line "NYU Stern - Acceptance Letter & Next Steps". Make sure to download the email and save it as a pdf, you will need it as part of your visa application material.

Once you follow the instructions to complete NYU's Office of Global Services (OGS) e-Form and pay the required fee, OGS will email your DS-2019 to your NYU email addressYou will need to print and sign the DS-2019 to apply for your J-1 student visa at your local US Embassy or Consulate. You cannot digitally sign your DS-2019.

We recommend you review the information compiled by OGS on how to Get a US Visa and on financial resource requirements.

It is highly recommended you start your visa process as soon as possible. Processing times are expected to be longer than usual and visa appointment availability at US embassies and consulates might be limited.

If you have any questions about the visa application process, please consult with your home school.

Note that if you already completed the e-Form for your DS-2019, then OGS is currently processing your documents to produce your visa paperwork.

>> NYU Net ID and NYU Email Activation: NYU Home

The NYU Home online portal, https://home.nyu.edu, gives you access to your housing application, billing information,
NYU email address, course information, and more!
Follow the steps below ASAP to activate your NYU Home account:
1.) Locate your NYU Net ID and your N Number
  • Both ID numbers are located on the top of the email with subject line "NYU Stern IBEX - Acceptance Letter & Next Steps." You should have received this email in the past few weeks.
  • Your NYU NetID is 2 or 3 letters (your initials) followed by 2 – 4 numbers (i.e uc123)
  • Your N Number (Campus ID) is the letter N with 8 numbers following it.  (i.e. N12345678).  It will allow you to activate your NetID/NYU Home account.
2.) Activate NYU Home Account
  1. Visit the NYU Start page at https://start.nyu.edu
  2. Select Activate NYU NetID
  3. You will need your N Number for this step.
  4. Follow the screen prompts to create your password and activate your NYU Home account.
3.) Your NYU Email
  1. Your NetID is the base of your NYU email address. For example, if your NetID is uc123, then your NYU email will be uc123@nyu.edu
  2. To activate your NYU email account, go to home.nyu.edu, log in with your NetID and password. You should be able to access and set up your NYU email from there.

>> HOUSING: NYU (ON-CAMPUS) or OFF-CAMPUS

As Incoming Exchange students, you have two options for housing during your semester. Please read below for more information on each.

On Campus Housing:

*Special Note: We have been informed by Housing Services that NYU Housing is expected to be at full capacity in Fall 2025. Your application will place you on a waiting list and it is unlikely that NYU Housing will be able to extend an offer. As a result, we strongly recommend you explore off-campus housing options.*
Please review the Visiting Student Information housing websiteThe application for the waitlist is open.
  • Application for Waiting List: To apply for on-campus housing please visit your NYU Home account and click on the Housing Forms card. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible but note that applications are not reviewed on a first come first served basis. Fall 2025 visiting students should apply for the full academic year, our office will coordinate with NYU Housing services to ensure your housing contract is cancelled at the end of the Fall semester.
  • Timeline: Housing assignment updates will be sent in the summer and will continue to be made through mid to late
August up until Orientation week. Please be patient!
    • If offered a residence hall placement, you will receive an email from NYU Housing. An offer indicates you are guaranteed housing, but you will not know the exact location or type of housing until closer to the start of the semester. Preferences are not guaranteed. Keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to accept the
      offer.
    • Important note: As an exchange student you are NOT required to submit the $1000 housing reservation payment, however, you will need to complete the Deferment Request Agreement step in the application. In the deferment step, please indicate Exchange Student in the comments section, agree to the terms, and click Submit. If you do not see this step following the “Application Confirmation” step, please contact housing@nyu.edu.
    • Please be sure to accept or decline any offers by their stated deadline.
  • Payment: Varies by housing assignment. The NYU Bursar will send a statement with your estimated housing charges. Your final charges will be adjusted when your assignment is made. Remember - you do not need to pay a deposit at time of offer.
  • Check-in: If selected, you will be able to move in starting on August 23rd. The Housing office has granted a special early move-in exception for IBEX students.
  • Send us your address: Once you finalize your on-campus location, please email us your address
Important note about NYU Housing: it is extremely unlikely that you will be assigned to a single room. You will most likely share a suite or a room with another student who might have a very different lifestyle than yours. Keep this in mind when deciding whether to accept an offer or not.
Find your own Off-Campus Housing:
If you do not receive or do not like your on-campus housing offer, or prefer to live off-campus, you can find an apartment
off-campus. You may visit NYU's Off-Campus Housing website for recommendations on how and where to find housing.
Once you secure off-campus housing, please email us your address.

***Note: DO NOT use the Craigslist website to find housing in New York City. Exchange students have run into scams and other problems when using this site.

>> IMMUNIZATIONS

New York State has implemented general immunization requirements for all university students. Students who do
not submit their paperwork will be dropped from their classes and will not be allowed to check into NYU Housing.
NYU requires all students to submit the Student Immunization History Form by Monday, July 1st through the Student Health Center portal. Detailed instructions on how to submit your immunization history are available here.
Please contact the Student Health Center with any questions at +1 (212) 443-1199 or via email at health.requirements@nyu.edu

>> FALL 2025 COHORT CONTACT SHEET

We want to give you the opportunity to connect with one another before the start of the Fall semester. Please fill out this optional contact sheet if you would like to begin speaking to each other. This is also a great opportunity to share resources and discuss off-campus housing options.

>> PLAGIARISM

NYU Stern takes all forms of academic misconduct seriously, including cheating and plagiarism. Often times, exchange students struggle with plagiarism as they are studying in a foreign language and do not clearly understand what constitutes an act of plagiarism.
To better understand NYU Stern's expectations before classes begin, please review NYU's Policy on Academic Integrity for students.
  • Complete the Online NYU Academic Integrity Tutorial by Monday, July 1st. Make sure to review the materials and watch the videos on the website.
  • Click on "Self Test" on the left hand side of the screen.
  • Click on "Academic Integrity Tutorial" option.

>> NEW YORK CITY ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

  • Arrival: We suggest that you plan to arrive in New York by Sunday, August 24th.
  • Departure: All students should plan to remain in New York until Friday, December 19th, the last possible date of exams. We cannot move exams, and you must be present at all final exams. Please plan accordingly.
