>> FINAL COURSE SCHEDULE You should have received an email from the IBEX Team on November 25th with instructions on how to access your Final Course Schedule. If you haven't received it, email us.
Course Schedule Changes
- As exchange students, you cannot make changes to your schedule yourself.
- As exchange students, you cannot be waitlisted for classes, only Open classes are accessible to you.
- We strongly discourage you from making any schedule changes until the semester starts. The only exception is if you need to change a course because your home university has not approved/validated it.
- You are expected to attend one class before asking to drop a course.
- NYU's add/drop period ends on February 3rd. We strongly recommend you do not add any new course after the first week of classes.
- During add/drop, you can be enrolled in new Stern courses only.
- During add/drop, many professors allow students to attend one class before enrolling. We strongly recommend you take advantage of this.
- Courses cross listed between undergraduate and graduate (coded ****-GB 60**) may have a different, earlier add/drop deadline. They are also not eligible for the Pass/Fail option.
- You must be enrolled in 12 credits minimum. You can be enrolled in 18 credits maximum.
Once you have identified an Open Stern class that you'd like to be enrolled in, please email us following the email template below. Please note that course schedule modification requests will be processed during our office's business hours: Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm

>> TRANSPORTATION FROM AIRPORT - NEWRemember, we suggest arriving in New York by Sunday, January 19.
- Once you have arrived at the local airport and have picked up your luggage, follow the signs that read "Ground Transportation" and proceed to the ground transportation information counters, bus stops, or taxi dispatchers.
- For your own safety, only use uniformed taxi dispatchers to get a taxi (yellow cabs) and ignore offers of transportation from solicitors in the terminal. Ignore non-uniformed persons offering to assist with baggage. Seek out uniformed porters or airline employees for baggage assistance.
- Please visit the appropriate website to find various transportation options from the airport:

>> NYU ID CARDAn NYU student identification card is required to access NYU buildings and other student services, including the Stern IBEX Orientation and the visa check-in workshop.
Once you arrive in NYC, pick up your card at the NYU Card Center located at 7 Washington Place (on the corner of Mercer Street). The NYU Card Center is open Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM.

>> BURSAR BILL (STUDENT BILL) - PAST DUE- You should have received an online "e-bill" earlier this month (sent via email from the Bursar's Office) for housing (if applicable) and health insurance charges.
- Important: Please note that the "e-bill" will only be sent to your NYU email address.
- There are several different payment options listed here. If you plan to pay via wire transfer, we suggest you try to pay in full before you arrive in the US, as some students have found communicating with their bank from the US to be a challenge.
- For any questions about billing and payment, you can contact the NYU Bursar at bursar.studentaccounts@nyu.edu. Make sure to include your N number in all your communications and feel free to copy our office.
Your bill was due in its entirety on January 3rd. If you waive the NYU insurance or if your final housing bill is less than the estimated housing fee you paid, you will receive a refund.

>> HEALTH INSURANCENYU requires all students to maintain health insurance. All J-1 students are automatically enrolled and billed for the NYU Health Insurance Comprehensive Plan.
Health Insurance Waiver
To determine whether your home health insurance is eligible for the waiver, review the criteria and complete the online form by February 10th. Please note that not many students are able to successfully waive out of the NYU plan as very few international insurance plans meet the criteria established by NYU.
If the NYU Health Insurance is waived after you paid the fee, you will be issued a refund (that might be prorated once the semester has started). Information on the refund methods can be found on the Bursar's website.

>> IMMUNIZATIONS - DUE SOONNew York State has implemented immunization requirements for all university students. Students who do not submit their paperwork will be dropped from their classes and will NOT be allowed to check into NYU Housing.

>> NYU MEAL PLAN- NYU has several dining facilities, however most exchange students do not purchase a NYU meal plan because there are many restaurants, cafes and other food options available around the university and residence halls.
- We suggest you wait until you arrive in New York to decide whether or not you want to purchase a meal plan. Learn more about prices and options here.

>> SPRING 2025 COHORT CONTACT SHEETWe want to give you the opportunity to connect with one another before the start of the Spring semester. Please fill out this optional contact sheet if you would like to begin speaking to each other. This is also a great opportunity to share resources and discuss off-campus Housing options.

>> HOUSING: NYU (ON-CAMPUS) or OFF-CAMPUSAs Incoming Exchange Students, you have two options for housing during your semester. Please read below for more information on each.
On Campus Housing:
*Special Note: NYU On-Campus Housing is not guaranteed and there is limited capacity. Your application will place you on a waiting list and it is very possible that you will not get a housing placement. If you do get into NYU Housing, you will not receive your actual room assignment until shortly before you arrive in New York City. As a result, we strongly recommend you explore Off-Campus options.*
- Application for Waiting List: To apply for on-campus housing please visit your NYU Home account and click on the Housing Forms card. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
- Login using your activated NYU Home Net ID and password (that you created via the instructions above).
- Once your application is submitted, you will receive an email confirmation that it has been received by NYU Residential Life and Housing Services.
- Timeline: Housing assignment updates will be sent in early January and will continue to be made through January. Please be patient!
- Please note that an offer indicates that you are guaranteed housing, but you will not know the exact location or type of housing until closer to the start of the semester. Preferences are not guaranteed. Keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to accept the offer. If offered a placement, you will have a limited window of time to accept or decline.
-
Important note: As an exchange student you are NOT required to submit the $1000 housing reservation payment. However, you will need to complete the Deferment Request Agreement step in the application. In the deferment step, please indicate Exchange Student in the comments section, agree to the terms, and click Submit. If you do not see this step following the “Application Confirmation” step, please contact housing@nyu.edu.
- Payment: Varies by housing assignment. The NYU Bursar will send a statement with your estimated housing charges. Your final charges will be adjusted when your assignment is made. This estimate may include the student meal plan, but you will not be required to pay this amount. **Remember - you do not need to pay a deposit at time of offer and you do not need to be on the student meal plan, but it is an option if you are interested.
- Check-in: If selected, you will be able to move in on Sunday, January 19th
- Send us your address: Once you finalize your on-campus location, please email us your address.
Find your own Off-Campus Housing
If you do not receive or do not like your on-campus housing offer, or prefer to live off-campus, you can find an apartment off-campus. You may visit NYU's Off-Campus Housing website for listings and resources. Additional resources on how and where to find housing can be found on this website (some of the housing options listed here might be for graduate students only) and on the OGS website (some of the providers listed here might be for long term rentals only).
***Note: DO NOT use the Craigslist website to find housing in New York City. Exchange students have run into scams and other problems when using this site.
Please email us to let us know which housing type you will be applying for: NYU Housing or Off Campus Accommodation.

>> VISASBy now, all students should have applied for their visa paperwork (DS-2019) from NYU and be in the process of applying for a J-1 visa through their local Consulate/Embassy.
If you have any questions about the visa application process, please take a look ate the Office of Global Services FAQ. If you still have questions, please consult with your home university first before reaching out to our office.

>> PLAGIARISM - PAST DUENYU Stern takes all forms of academic misconduct seriously, including cheating and plagiarism. Often times, exchange students struggle with plagiarism as they are studying in a foreign language and do not clearly understand what constitutes as an act of plagiarism.
- Complete the Online NYU Academic Integrity tutorial by January 1st. Make sure to review the materials and watch the videos on the website.
- Click on "Self Test" on the left hand side of the screen.
- Click on "Academic Integrity Tutorial" option.

>> NEW YORK CITY ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE - Arrival: We suggest that you plan to arrive the weekend of January 18th
- Departure: All students should plan to remain in New York until Wednesday, May 14th, which is the last possible date of exams. We cannot move exams and you must be present at all final exams, please plan accordingly.
