Common Application Mistakes

Internship Agreement Form
  • Student does not correctly fill out the first section. Please fill out as follows: "This INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT sets forth the obligations of Student Name (“Intern”) and Company Name located at Full Company Address (Number, Street, City, State, Zip Code) (hereinafter "the Internship Site") in connection with a paid internship for educational credit with New York University’s (“NYU”) Stern School of Business (hereinafter, “Stern”)."
  • The internship dates do not match what is listed in the Company Letter.
Company Letter
  • The letter is missing a required component (mentioned in 2a-2h above). Please read your Company Letter in its entirety before you upload it. If your letter is missing any of the requirements, you will be asked to contact your employer for an updated version which will result in processing delays.
  • The internship dates do not match what is listed in the Internship Agreement Form.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Requests
  • Student submits request to OGS before they were notified about enrollment in Business Practicum. Please be reminded that international students in need of work authorization must wait until after they have been notified by the Business Practicum Team to apply for CPT.
  • Internship dates and company address do not match what was listed in the application. Please review your request in its entirety to make sure the information is correct. "Small" mistakes such as incorrect zip codes or misspelled street names can result in delays as the student is responsible for submitting accurate information.
  • Student lists a Stern adviser on the request form instead of “Stern Academic Services” (uc.academicservices@stern.nyu.edu). Unfortunately, online requests sent to other advisers will be returned and may cause delay in processing.

FAQs

What should I do if I already submitted my application but was instructed to upload an updated document?
Students should not submit multiple applications. If you are instructed by the Business Practicum Team to upload new documents, please add them to the "DO NOT UPLOAD IN THIS SECTION UNLESS INSTRUCTED BY THE UC ACADEMIC SERVICES TEAM" section of your original application. Once you have done so, you will need to reach out to our team in the same email thread so we know to take another look at your application.

What if my employer says they can't provide Workers’ Compensation Insurance?
While we are not directly involved in the collection of Workers' Compensation Insurance information, please let your employer know that NYU follows New York State law which requires students with internships (either paid or unpaid) to receive this insurance. A copy of an appropriate insurance certificate should be sent to the Senior Director, Insurance & Enterprise Risk Management, 105 East 17th Street, 4th floor, New York, NY 10003 prior to the start of the Internship (either by mail or email at insurance.vendor.cert@nyu.edu).

Can I apply for Business Practicum before the application opens?
Unfortunately, no. While we appreciate your eagerness, students must wait until the application for the intended semester has opened.

What if my internship falls 1 day short of the 8 week minimum requirement?
Please contact your employer and ask them to extend your internship dates to meet this requirement.

Does a stipend count as a Paid Internship?
Yes. If you are receiving a stipend for your internship, please fill out the "Paid" Internship Agreement Form.

Can I pursue multiple internships with CPT?
Unfortunately, no. Students can only pursue one internship under CPT.
