Looking back

Just a quick and sincere BLOG today. As we wrap up the year it’s always a good time to reflect on the last 50 weeks.

What did you learn? How did you grow? What did you accomplish?

I believe one of the best ways to be even more successful in the future is to review what you have done. Not just to celebrate the good stuff, but to really look at the mistakes and challenges you overcame. Remember, you’ve already survived all your worst days.
As I look back on 2018, I had some great personal learning through running the Global Student Leadership Summit (register now - Eager Leader rate expires December 21.) Our goal was to reach over 2,000 students. In the end we "only" reached just under 1,700. What I’m most proud of is instead of being upset or negative about not reaching our goal, we as a team decided to double down and make sure it was the best conference we had ever run. It was! It also resulted in having more student and teacher than we had in attendance register for our next event in 2020.

So here’s a quick but powerful activity: Open your journal (you should really have a journal) and write a list of all of the notable “events” that you experienced in 2018. Personal, business, school, and health events. Then, add the lesson(s) you learned from each of these moments. I bet if you were honest you would find this a very liberating opportunity.

By the way, if you’re a student or teacher I strongly recommend you give some thought to how you will get 2019 to a great start!  Consider one of our inspiring speakers or attending the BC Youth Leadership Seminars, the Spring OSLC conference or maybe one of The SPARK Leadership days at Canada’s Wonderland!

Here’s to a STUpendous final couple of weeks of 2018 and as always, thank you for your continued support for all that YLCC does!
