What's the point?
I am away up at Blue Mountain, an alpine ski resort in Collingwood, ON for a 4 day retreat with my amazing partner, Jenny. We try and come a few times a year. Why? Because Jenny loves to ski and I love to... not ski.
So, why would I come here just to sit around while Jenny skis? What’s the point? Wouldn’t it make more sense to spend time at home or do something that we both love?
The truth is, I think I like Blue Mountain more than she does. I love it because it forces us to be away from the daily routine. As much as I preach the value of a consistent routine, you need to give yourself a different view and atmosphere from time to time. You need to be “away”.
So when my other half is skiing, I am writing, eating some good food and walking around the little village. I encourage you for your mental well being to go and do something new, change the channel. I find when I am here, I get more creative and I look at my business and personal challenges a little differently. It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day. It’s sometimes good to step away and take a deep breath.
If you have already stumbled working toward your new year goals and resolutions, consider going somewhere and re-evaluting, you might find that your internal compass will set you back in the right direction and you will see the point.
In leadership and gratitude,
