Learn and Live

At this moment, I am smack dab in the middle of the first ever Global Student Leadership Summit. When you read this (and by the way, thank you to all of the regular readers), I want you to know this: For more than a year we have been planning and working so hard to pull together this international event; the likes of which we have never done before. We had originally hoped for 3,000 youth and educators. We ended up getting close to 2,000.
Originally, I was so disappointed with this number. I was almost angry. Then a friend pointed out how this was a success: Hundreds and hundreds of youth from across Canada, the US, and 9 other countries gathering to London, Ontario to experience an international event that has never been held before.

When the other Ontario Student Leadership Conference (OSLC) started it had less than 100 delegates. Now it has 2,300!

I guess, I am a BIG dreamer... a really BIG dreamer. I see potential and want to reach it, then surpass it. I want to reach as many young leaders as possible with a positive message and experience.

I will sit back when the Summit is over and will see how we did. Thinking over the great, the good and the challenging. I will LEARN from mistakes, assess the wins and losses, then adjust the plan. I will live better through my and our lessons learned.

I have STUpendous hope! I know when we gather again in 2 years for the 2nd GSLS. We will come together to hear from some of the most powerful and inspirational leaders on the planet. We will do it better and it will be even bigger. That’s what we do!

A special thanks to Kara Gunnarson and our entire YLCC crew that worked on bringing this vision to reality for the 14 months. You are awesome! I am full of gratitude.

It takes a VERY large group to pull off a Summit of this magnitude! To the more than145 schools that attended, you are truly leaders. You took the risk and you came! Thanks SO much!

If you missed GSLS and want to experience a YLCC program, we are next in BC at the 26th annual BC Student Leadership Seminars then we move onto the Spring OSLC conference and finally wind up at Canada’s Wonderland for SPARK Leadership Days and finish the Junior OSLC conference!

Leadership is all about getting better and doing more to move an idea or a mission forward! See you in 2020!

The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.
