Passion... Pass it on!

This one resonates with me lots and lots.Imagine having a job that you love so much that you are willing to risk everything. You would do that job even with all its risks, including death.

I was recently asked to speak in place of the late Rob Stewart, an incredible Canadian filmmaker (Sharkwater, Revolution) who passed away while filming his new documentary. His parents said, “He died doing what he loved.”

Can you even imagine having anything in your life that means that much to you? I have 3 kids who I would jump in front of a bullet for. Without hesitation. I think most parents would say the same. However, I also know that the chance of that becoming a reality is fairly low. I live in Canada and our country — at least where my family lives — is really safe.

So you may not need to risk death, but would you put it all on the line for a job, a project, or even a goal? What would you bet your “savings” on?

From where I'm sitting, I see three types of people in the world:
Those who do as little as they have to. They do whatever “gets them by.”

Those who do what they feel is appropriate. They do it well and they do it properly. The feel that life is good and they don’t generally upset anyone.

Then, there are the risk takers who are fuelled by PASSION. They have a dream to realize, a drive to create something more or better. They want to share their dreams with anyone and everyone. They want to PASS IT ON!

It may sound like a bit of stretch, but to me passion is about being and doing more.

My team at YLCC is all about passion. We surround ourselves with incredible people. We strive to create incredible experiences and opportunities for students, teachers, and families to grow and become better; to help you find your PASSION.

Here are some examples of our passion at work:
  • This coming April, we will host the first ever Global Student Leadership Summit(GSLS) in London, Ontario, Canada. We had a passion to expand the impact and benefits of student leadership beyond the borders of schools, cities, and our country. I have personally selected almost 60 speakers. Our keynotes are truly STUpendous! Sean Stephenson, Dr. Sam Nutt, Mike Smith, and the other 4 keynotes are worth flying from anywhere to see. The Summit will be truly inspiring.
  • People told us that our film experience, YLCC Media, would never work. To date, more than 25,000 Canadians have seen Rising Above in theatres. As a result, their schools and communities are benefiting from a change in the conversation around bullying. We had a passion that drove us to complete our film. It’s a message that must be spread!
  • YLCC summer camp has grown so much in the last 25 years. Parents and teachers send their children and students to develop in this passionate leadership environment we've created. They want their kids to learn that they can DO MORE!
What are you passionate about? Have you found something you would risk it all for? If so, I would love to hear about it. If not, we can help; I invite you to learn more about our programs. It’s our goal to work in a positive way with a million people each year. We are going to reach that goal. Why? It’s our PASSION!

In leadership and gratitude,
Youth Leadership Camps Canada (YLCC) inspires and empowers today’s youth to leave a positive impact on our world. With our innovative leadership programs and dynamic staff, we instil in students a greater understanding of the short and long term impacts of their words, choices and actions.
