What do you enjoy about working on campus? I love being able to get so much hands-on experience within my field in a way that benefits the student body! It's also a great opportunity to collaborate with my peers on something we're all passionate about and to have even more time working with and learning from our amazing advisors.

What skills or knowledge have you learned in your campus job that can be applied to your future profession? I've developed so many journalism skills in my job that I couldn't have learned in the classroom, like managing a newsroom and TV studio, producing an entire weekly news show, adhering to strict deadlines and the real-life application of journalism law and ethics.

Favorite campus employment memory? There's so many to choose from, but my favorite memory of this year is celebrating the Jambar's 90th birthday with our staff. We had cake and a small (socially distanced) party on our paper production night. Our editor-in-chief Kelcey Norris and I spray-painted the rock (which has always been on my YSU bucket list!) to promote it, and I feel very grateful to help this 90-year-old campus tradition continue with such a great staff.

What do you enjoy about working on campus: I've really enjoyed the environment itself - it's transformational to more than just me. I attribute a lot of who I have become to the work I do for our department. Having the opportunity to not only learn and grow as an individual but to learn and grow with others (and lead them through their own process) is such a rewarding experience to me! This job really has me fixating a bit more on the little things that are enjoyable about class, work, and life holistically. I've also gotten to cultivate close relationships with those I work with, and it's wonderful to have found such an encouraging support system. YSU is not just my "home away from home" anymore - it is my home.

What skills or knowledge have you learned in your campus job that can be applied to your future profession? I'm furthering my education in Student Affairs and Counseling, so I feel that my experiences have truly set me up for this career path in more ways than just direct experience. One of my favorite skills I've improved upon while working for our department is teachability. There's so much to learn, generally speaking, and seeing this with an open mind and optimism has really become more natural within this position. I'm confident that I will look back fondly on my time as an RA and my time in college.

Favorite campus employment memory? This is hard to answer, and mostly because my favorite memories are the "little things" I mentioned earlier... And there are so many. There is so much I will miss about my position when I graduate - one-on-one meetings with my supervisor, game nights with my coworkers, when residents say, "thank you", programming, working our front desk, chatting with the cleaning staff, helping with our hiring process, trainings, and even move ins and move outs. So many things about this job have made it genuinely the best experience I have ever had. My goal as an RA was to make this time period the best experience for others too. Maybe then we can all enjoy the little things more than just when it's time to move forward and they've become memories we write and chat about.

What do you enjoy about working on campus? I enjoy working on campus because it allows me to see a more behind-the-scenes look at YSU events. It's great to know how much campus staff values its students, including student employees. Even though I don't hold a very lofty position, everyone in the office makes me feel like part of the team and treats me with the same respect they do their other coworkers. I am also thankful that my job is on campus, since I live on campus!

What skills or knowledge have you learned in your campus job that can be applied to your future profession? This job helped me develop professional skills in both broad communication skills and smaller aspects of professionalism, like email signatures. I have learned (and continue to learn) how to think on my feet while helping people who come into the office. I have also developed knowledge of things that can apply to almost every job I can have, like the process of clocking in and out on time, communicating about time schedules, working with staff in other departments, and even helping to train other employees!

Favorite campus employment memory? One of the many fond memories I have from working in the Student Activities Office is the time recently when I got the chance to help out with the Build-A-Penguin event in March. I really enjoyed getting the chance to work directly with students building their penguin, as well as setting up and taking down the events' supplies. I managed parts of the event with another student employee in the office and helped an employee from Kilcawley Center to set up decorations. Because of the pandemic, YSU hasn't been able to do the large events they used to, so this was one of the larger but COVID-safe events that I have worked.

What do you enjoy about working on campus? The best thing about working on campus is the opportunity to meet wonderful people. As an international student, it was through working on campus that I got to make some good friends and know more about the campus environment and culture. As an RA, I get to meet new residents every year, and see them grow as a person throughout the year. For a person who wants the best of his college life, working on campus really adds a value to it.

What skills or knowledge have you learned in your campus job that can be applied to your future profession?
Working on campus has made me more responsible and confident. Working as an RA for two years now has helped develop my leadership skills. No matter what my future profession might be, I believe these leadership skills will be very valuable. Furthermore, I have developed people skills through the interactions with the residents and other staff; this has also provided me with an appreciation for diversity. Besides that, my on campus job has taught me professionalism and given me an ability to handle crisis situations.

Favorite campus employment memory? My favorite campus employment memory is my first RA training. I was very excited about working as an RA. Not only did I learn about the RA roles and responsibilities, but there were sessions and presentations which were geared toward making us a responsible member of the community. Besides the informational part, it was a fun experience where I got the chance to make new friends and spend time with them.

What skills or knowledge have you learned in your campus job that can be applied to your future profession? This position has provided me the opportunity to interact directly with the community it serves. As a Medicolegal Death Investigator, I will apply the knowledge and skills I have obtained and developed engaging with others and apply them to the community with which I will serve.

Favorite campus employment memory? My favorite memories are the countless interactions and laughs I have shared with Rick, Jaesson, and my fellow co-workers at the Veterans Center.

What skills or knowledge have you learned in your campus job that can be applied to your future profession? I've learned how to multitask during deadline and to lean on the people who are a part of my team. Everyone has their own strengths to bring to the group. I've also learned extensively about web management and writing stories, which is something I'll bring to my future profession.

Favorite campus employment memory? This year The Jambar celebrated its 90th birthday! We got cake and pizza and even painted the rock for our group's anniversary, which was so cool!

What do you enjoy about working on campus? I absolutely love working on campus and would encourage others to do so, too! It has brought me lots of opportunities, great experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime. Also, being a tour guide has given me the chance to learn more about Youngstown State University and all the opportunities it has to offer.

What skills or knowledge have you learned in your campus job that can be applied to your future profession? Being a tour guide is a job that comes with lots of responsibility and dedication, whether you are giving tours to prospective students or working in the office. I have learned from this job that flexibility is important, because the needs and interests of each individual prospective student are diverse.  Communication is extremely essential and with this job I have become secure and confident when communicating with peers and my supervisors.  Because of my job as a tour guide I will be able to use many of the experiences in my future as an early childhood teacher. The flexibility and communication skills that I have learned as a tour guide with prospective students and their families, will be used in my classroom with students, other teachers, and administration.

Favorite campus employment memory? I do not have one specific favorite campus employment memory but have enjoyed the relationships I have made with my co-workers and supervisors.  The time giving tours and working in the office has brought lots of laughs and enjoyment.

What do you enjoy about working on campus? One thing that I enjoy the most about working on campus is the convenience of the job. It is nice to be able to stop in work before, in between, or after class while I am already on campus. In addition, I truly enjoy the people that I work with and for.

What skills or knowledge have you learned in your campus job that can be applied to your future profession? There are many skills that I have learned and developed from having this office job. Some of those skills include better communication skills, better organizational skills, and a stronger work ethic. All of these skills are ideal for future professions, and I am thankful this job has helped me better develop them and prepare me.
