ON THE HORIZON:
Student Center Renovation slated to begin in May 2025

WTW Architects performed a feasibility study to renovate the Student Center at Youngstown State University in 2021-22, and worked work with campus leaders, students, and staff in the development of a plan to improve and optimize student union space on campus. The WTW + Strollo led design team for the building renovation used the program from that study as a basis for the program verification stage of basic services. More meetings were held with students, campus leaders, and staff to verify and finalize the renovation program, and react to evolving needs and final budget constraints since the study completion.
The renovation is scheduled in five phases, to be completed by Fall 2027:
Phase 1: Summer 2025
Phase 2: Fall 2025 - Spring 2026
Phase 3: Summer 2026
Phase 4: Fall 2026 - Spring 2027
Phase 5: Summer 2027

The 10th FEDERAL FRENZY attracted an estimated crowd of 10,000 for this free music & arts festival featuring 25 musical acts, 40 vendors, 12 food trucks, and much more.

Student Media

WHAT'S FOR DINNER?
Dining Request for Proposal in Process

As the current dining contract established in 2013 is ending in May 2025, YSU is participating in a dining request for proposal (RFP). We are seeking nutritional, high quality, cost effective and innovative residential dining, retail, catering services and other amenities that meet the diverse needs of our students, faculty, staff, and guests. In addition, a reasonable financial return for all parties is necessary to promote cooperation and planning, to maintain and improve the facilities, provide equipment replacement and maintenance, and to support temporary retail and activation of the planned new Student Center.

YSU hired Innovated Hospitality Solutions (IHS) to work closely with our team to understand and assess the current dining service program; recruit and conduct visioning sessions with potential dining providers; identify recommendations and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to use in developing a customized RFP documentation; recommend alternative dining options during the student center renovation;  conduct evaluation of submitted proposals; develop agendas for operator presentations; develop matrix for committee scoring of proposals & presentations; and facilitate a final review session with core committee to make selection using feedback from both the Core and Steering Committees.
