Following a Disaster

Did something happen to your apartment and your belongings? We are sorry that you are going through this. Here are some resources that will help you to stabilize your situation.

If your apartment is uninhabitable (a UCSF official tells you that you cannot live there), you have some options:

Housing Services will attempt to move you to a vacant unit if one is available. Because campus
housing is usually full, we cannot guarantee that a unit will be available. If one is available, you will continue to pay your regular monthly housing fee.

If Housing can't find you a temporary place to live on campus, you will not be charged for the days when your unit is uninhabitable. You can find temporary housing at your own expense from our Short-Term Lodging Guide or at an establishment of your choice. In order to save money, you may consider staying with friends or family.

Call your insurance agent. Whether you caused the problem or are the victim of the problem, your insurance agent can help guide you through the next steps. If you need to purchase any emergency items, including food or shelter, save your receipts and invoices. Your agent may need these. Housing Services is not responsible for your damaged belongings.

UCSF Risk Management and Insurance Services may contact you regarding the next steps in the process. Visit rmis.ucsf.edu for more information. UCSF does not provide renters insurance for you.
Please review your rights and responsibilities for liability and damages in your UCSF Housing Agreement.
Bookmark our Maintenance Request page in case you have something minor that may need fixing in the future.
