Shannon Deoul: Shannon and husband Andy Pankin were so fortunate to see many of our Kenyon friends in person in February, right before the country shut down! First, Shannon visited with Kate (Hellman) Miller and her family in Florida, where they were both fortuitously visiting at the same time. Then, Shannon and Andy traveled to Portland for Stephanie Hemmingson's beautiful wedding on Leap Day! Shannon officiated and many Kenyon friends were in attendance, including Zannie Carlson, Colleen (Halpin) Kelly, Elisa Garcia, Ryan Pearce, Chris Holden, Ben Peterson, and Alex Boivin '09.
Ben Wright-Heuman: Ben Wright-Heuman self-published the second graphic novel, THE LEGACY OF L.
Adam Petherbridge: Adam's Broadway tour of The Play That Goes Wrong was cancelled due to COVID, but he's been making the most of the time off at home with his wife, hiking as many Catskills as possible and hoping for the best in 2021. Stay safe everyone!
Julia Rowny: As if the current moments weren't full enough, I earned my Ed. M. in Learning and Teaching in May, got married in June, and moved in August, where I am the new math department chair at Blair Academy, a 9-12 boarding school. Boarding school in a pandemic is...interesting, but we are all working hard to give kids a somewhat normal experience. Hope everyone is safe this fall!
Josephine Trueblood (Comas Bardot): I continue to work as a Clinical Research Nurse at City of Hope with the department of Diabetes and Metabolic Research Institute. Our department is growing and preparing for many new clinical trials for adult diabetics. It is exciting to be part of work that may alter the lives of so many people in the future. In October, I will be presenting in the IACRN virtual conference two nursing posters and I continue to lead a project to enhance our candidate recruitment process and database.
Like many families across the world, we had some challenges in adapting to life with the ongoing pandemic. Last month we were too close to the Bobcat Fire in Los Angeles National Forest and we were under evacuation warning for over 2 weeks. As a precaution we evacuated our daughters (Ushuaia and Iguazú) to my sister's home while my husband and I stayed behind. We were blessed that our neighborhood was not lost albeit the fire being 0.3 mile away from us. In the midst of all the scary chaos, we had the opportunity to experience a great sense of community with our neighbors. We had incredible family support, both from our immediate family and our precious squad of Kenyon Aunties and Cousins - Agnese Melbarde (Klāvs), Lauren Burley (Esther) & Olga Novikova (Nikko). As we faced the possibility of losing everything, these three incredible ladies did a terrific job at supporting and comforting me (us); we could not have done it without them!
Tim Miller: After seven years on the academic job market, I have accepted a position as Assistant Professor of English at Florida Atlantic University.
David “Alex” Rinehart: Cary Rinehart '12 and I moved to Ohio this fall. We're looking forward to taking the baby up The Hill for his first visit to his future alma mater.
Adam Sonnenfeld: Emily Bierman and Adam Sonnenfeld welcomed their second child into the world on June 28, 2020. Cora Bryn was born happy and healthy in Madison, Wisconsin, and though 2020 has been a difficult year, Cora's birth brought immense joy into their home. Elsie, Cora's big sister, continues to amaze them with her kindness, sense of humor, and endless patience even when baby cries interrupt her daily Paw Patrol allowance (which has increased to an unacceptable amount leading up to the election as Emily organizes phone banks for Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidates). The greatest silver lining to 2020 has been Adam working from home, allowing for lots more family time and the freedom to spend time in the Midwest.
Maggie Kempner & Victor Lamond: Victor Lamond and Maggie Kempner are quarantined in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they are working for A3 (AAA’s innovation lab) and Tesla. In April they welcomed their son, Judah David Kempner Lamond (aka Jude), who has been keeping them very busy!
Thomas Dickson: Thomas Dickson and Brian Dow just completed filming a new season of the television series Alone. Each participant is permitted to bring 10 items to survive in the wilderness. Thomas brought his Kenyon belt and Brian brought his class photo.
Neil Johnston: My wife and I just celebrated our two year anniversary and both continue to work at the University of Pittsburgh. She works in Public Health and I work for the Office of Residence Life - definitely an interesting time for both our fields! It's been great hearing from so many of you, and wish everyone the best as we begin to look towards 2021!
