Volunteer Shout Out //
Paul Goodrich '88 P'23 '25 & Valerie Goodrich P'23 '25

In honor of our upcoming Family Weekend, we'd like to give a shout out to Kenyon parent volunteers
Paul Goodrich '88 P'23 '25 and Valerie Goodrich P'23 '25.
"We've been volunteering for a long time, and to be honest, I lost touch with Kenyon over the years," said Paul. "I still have some of the best friends from my time at Kenyon. As we began the college search process a couple of years ago for our oldest, Billy, Kenyon came back to mind. I did not want to force Kenyon on Billy, and it was the last school he visited. To our surprise, Billy decided to apply early and joined the class of '23. His brother Jimmy certainly had a strong advocate in his older brother, and he followed suit and joined the class of '25 earlier this year. Valerie and I knew we wanted to be involved in our kids' experience and quickly realized we could help from Chicago."
Valerie and Paul chose to be parent volunteers because they both feel Kenyon is a place that needs and is worth their effort — and they can feel the impact they are making! They choose to support Kenyon financially because it is important to them that they don't feel like they are donating to a black hole. They appreciate Kenyon's transparency about their needs and uses of financial asks.
As volunteers, Valerie and Paul hosted a welcome reception this past summer for new students and felt particularly lucky to have Bill Lowry '56 join them to see the next class engage with the College. Next up as volunteers for the College, they hope to help Kenyon continue to expand its name recognition, especially in areas of the country that traditionally don’t send their kids to small liberal arts colleges.
Paul was a history major at Kenyon and is currently the chief operation officer for the city of Chicago. Valerie attended University of Michigan as well as Rush Medical College and is currently a physician at Lovell Federal Health Care in Chicago.
Thank you, Valerie and Paul, for all you do to support Kenyon. We couldn't do this work without you and our entire group of dedicated volunteers!
Volunteer Updates

Kenyon Phonathon — 3,585 calls and counting!
Our Kenyon Fund phonathon (yes, we still use the phone!) is back up and running, to great early success. In the first two weeks of calling, our ten amazing student workers placed 3,585 calls, raising $16,635 in pledges and $11,668 in cash!

Thank You Regional Associations
The Alumni and Parent Engagement Office is excited to see a number of regional associations planning in-person events. Thank you to the Chicago, D.C. and Pittsburgh regional associations for hosting both in-person and virtual events, and to the Austin and Denver associations who are currently planning events. If you would like to host an event in your region and need some support please contact Tristan Neviska at neviskatj@kenyon.edu.

Engagement — Everything that Counts!
For all of our volunteers looking for non-fundraising opporunities to give back to Kenyon, this one's for you! Our team recently put together an infographic to illustrate our alumni engagement goal and all of the activities that count toward our tracking. Take a look and encourage your classmates to attend an alumni event, submit a class note, join you as a volunteer for the College and more! The full infographic can be viewed here or by scrolling to the bottom of this page.

LOOKING FORWARD //
Last month, the College shared its strategic plan for Kenyon’s third century. Three concepts form the pillars of the strategy: rigorous learning in a global context; a thriving, diverse community; and strong financial foundations. If you haven't already, you can read the full plan here. Read on to our next announcement to learn more about the Kenyon Access Initiative, an example of strong financial foundations.

KENYON ACCESS INITIATIVE  //  Also announced last month, the Kenyon Access Initiative is a partnership with the Schuler Education Foundation with the goal of bringing more low-income students to Kenyon. The foundation will match dollar-for-dollar all gifts to the initiative up to $25 million. The money Kenyon raises will be invested in the endowment and allowed to accumulate interest for 10 years while the foundation matching funds provide operating support during that time frame. This allows the first of the 50 new scholarships to be awarded next year, and after the ten-year period, Kenyon will have the endowed resources to maintain the scholarship support. Please contact Shawn Dailey at daileys@kenyon.edu to learn more about the initiative.
