Volunteer Shout Out //
ASHLEY (ROWATT) KARPINOS '03

Ashley (Rowatt) Karpinos '03 has been a Kenyon volunteer since graduation — inviting Kenyon students to shadow her during her medical training and in her practice, as a past member of the Board of Trustees and currently, as a member of the Class of 2003's 20th Reunion Planning Committee, along with her husband Justin Karpinos '03. Ashley believes building and maintaining community is part of the fabric of Kenyon and that volunteering helps her stay connected and foster this community.

"My time at Kenyon prepared me with the tools I needed for a successful career in medicine. I learned to design research experiments in Wade Powell's molecular biology lab and evaluate the nuances of Dante's Inferno from Tim Shutt.  I want to play my part in making sure today's Kenyon students are as well-prepared for their post-collegiate endeavors as I was. "

Ashley loves to see her classmates working together to help today's students and believes if everyone can donate a little time and energy, it adds up to something collectively greater than most could do individually. She loves to see high involvement from the alumni body!

Ashley was a molecular biology major at Kenyon. She is currently a physician and an assistant professor of internal medicine, pediatrics and sports medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She lives in Nashville where she and Justin still love swimming.
They also enjoy running, soaking up the Nashville music scene, and now cheering on their sons Elliott and Isaac on the soccer sidelines and from the pool stands.

Thank you, Ashley, for all you do to support Kenyon. We couldn't do this work without you and our entire group of dedicated alumni volunteers!

Introducing the Kenyon Athletics Giving Challenge
The Annual Giving staff is excited to partner with our colleagues in Athletics on an all-sports crowdfunding challenge to benefit both of our areas — and Kenyon! Class agents and any other interested volunteers are invited to join an afternoon coffee break on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. ET to learn more about the inaugural Kenyon Athletics Giving Challenge, which will run from Oct. 26-29 (mark your calendars!), and its potential benefit to Kenyon, as well as your class fundraising and participation goals! Please reach out to Director of Annual Giving Molly Gutridge ’99 at gutridge1@kenyon.edu if you have questions or are interested in making a gift to support Kenyon Athletics or a specific Kenyon sports team as part of the challenge.

Homecoming and Family Weekend bring alumni and families to the Hill
At the end of September we invited alumni volunteers to join us on the Hill for Homecoming Weekend. Events included Alumni Council and Kenyon Fund Executive Committee meetings, an Alumni of Color Mentors gathering, Reunion planning and a Homecoming block party. Additionally, students and alumni met during a networking event hosted by the Career Development Office and Social Board hosted Fall Fest. Students and alumni were excited to participate in the Homecoming activities. We are eager to see this tradition grow!
Last weekend, we welcomed over 1,300 people to campus for Family Weekend. We were especially excited to return to a traditional Family Weekend experience that allowed families to attend classes and dine in Peirce.

Affinity group leaders hear from alumni panelists in Cleveland
On Oct. 6, ODEI and Student Affairs staff took affinity group leaders to Cleveland as part of the Affinity Groups Leadership Development Series. The students enjoyed lunch in downtown Cleveland and toured the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Afterwards, they attended a dinner and alumni panel at the House of Blues moderated by Janae Peters ’10. The panelists included James Greenwood ’02, Jonathan Hernandez ’21, Kevin Pan ’15 and Xavi Boes, the graduate assistant working with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities and Student Engagement. The panelists discussed their involvement as student leaders, as well as their challenges and victories and offered advice to the group.

NEW EMPLOYEE FACES  //
After conducting a national search for candidates, the Alumni and Parent Engagement and Annual Giving offices are pleased to announce their new young alumni team. Abigail Rose began on Monday, Oct. 10 as the new assistant director of young alumni and student giving. Emily Shackle, formerly in the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion at Kenyon, joins the team today, Monday, Oct. 17, as the new assistant director of young alumni and student engagement.

NEW VOLUNTEER FACES
//  Alumni Council and the Kenyon Fund Executive Committee are pleased to announce the addition of several new members. Alumni Council recently welcomed Thomas Brown ’13, A'Biel Hammonds ’02, Darnell Heywood ’94 and Kiro Mikhaeel ’22. KFEC welcomed Tucker Bennett ’20, Bill Hartman ’20, Lain Shakespeare ’05 and Michael Young ’76. Both groups reported 100% participation in giving to the College last fiscal year!

REPORT HAZING  //  Kenyon alumni volunteers have long been classified mandatory reporting agents for sexual harrassment and other Title IX violations that they encounter during their volunteer service. Ohio's recent passage of Collin’s Law adds a mandatory reporting of hazing responsibility for those who live in the state. The law requires that any alumnus, “immediately report hazing to a law enforcement agency in the county in which the victim of hazing resides or in which the hazing is occurring or has occurred.” We also encourage all volunteers who learn of, or suspect hazing or Title IX violations, to report them to the Office of Civil Rights at Kenyon.
