2001 Alumnae Share Why They Give

“My years at Kenyon were profoundly transformative ... Making Kenyon a philanthropic priority is my way of paying forward the opportunities I received.” - Scheroi Taylor ’01

“Gratitude. For those who gave before me and from whose generosity I benefited as a scholarship recipient. For the professors who inspired me and shaped me as a critical thinker and writer. And for the institution that beguiled us all to a beautiful hill in the middle of Ohio.” - Beth Walkenhorst Weinewuth ’01

Thank you, Scheroi and Beth, for your generosity and for sharing why you choose to support Kenyon!

December Challenge Results & Kenyon Together 2026 Planning
Thank you to everyone who joined in to make a gift during Phrosty’s December Challenge. This was a fun way to track our December progress and also helped us test our new giving day portal in Slate. We accepted nearly 1,250 online gifts in December, totalling over $650,000. With your support and volunteer efforts, the Kenyon Fund is UP in both dollars and donors over this time last year.
Mark your calendars now for Kenyon Together 2026 on March 24 and 25 — our online giving challenge that brings the entire Kenyon community together in support of the College. In the meantime, please encourage your classmates to submit class notes by March 9. Finally, if you missed our Volunteer Coffee Chat with Jodi Kovach from The Gund earlier this week, the recording is available in the follow-up email and offers great updates on this important campus partner.

Reunion Registration & Regional Event Planning
As a reminder, Reunion Weekend is just around the corner, and registration recently opened to the 25th and 50th Reunion Class (2001 and 1976), Perennial Reunion Classes, Alumni Council and KFEC. Please encourage classmates and friends to check key dates and other details on our website.
Regional association volunteers should save the date for our next volunteer meeting which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET on Zoom. Save this link and be on the lookout for future communication from Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement Emily Shackle.

Alumni Council & KFEC Meetings Next Week
KFEC: We are looking forward to our virtual KFEC meeting next Friday, Feb. 20, where we'll join Alumni Council in the morning and dive into spring priorities in the afternoon. KFEC will also meet during Reunion Weekend and can register now.
Alumni Council: Members of Alumni Council will meet virtually on Friday, Feb. 20, with discussion focused on the alumni survey, committee work (including future alumni engagement events hosted by Alumni Council) and voting on alumni award winners. Award recipients will be announced at the virtual Alumni Town Hall on May 6 at 7 p.m. ET and during Reunion Weekend. Alumni Council will convene once more during Reunion Weekend for its final meeting of the academic year and will host a faculty reception prior to the Parade of Classes. More information about Alumni Council, including minutes from previous meetings, can be found online.

50th Reunion Planning Underway
The 1976 50th Reunion Committee is getting excited for their special celebration in May! Reunion registration opened for their class on Feb. 2 with over 40 people already registered, and their plans for the weekend are shaping up with the celebration beginning on Thursday evening. They are making incredible progress on their fundraising and participation goals that we will be excited to announce during Reunion Weekend.
The 1977 50th Reunion Committee is coming together nicely with Denese Giordano and Patrick Edwards leading the charge as Co-Reunion Leaders.  They will begin work as a committee in the coming months, and will be shadowing the Class of 1976 during Reunion Weekend as a way to prepare for their milestone experience.

Winter Board of Trustees Report
The Kenyon College Board of Trustees convened in Gambier on Feb. 5-6 for its winter meeting. Despite the below-freezing temperatures, trustees enjoyed a warm welcome and plenty of seasonal activity. Those who arrived on Wednesday cheered the men’s basketball team in a nail-biting match against the College of Wooster, and Thursday evening trustees took in a performance by Kenyon’s student comedy troupes.
President Julie Kornfeld framed the central discussion of the winter meeting in her opening remarks Thursday morning. “Given the unprecedented disruption to higher education over several years, Kenyon must make careful but bold use of the resources we have to advance our educational mission,” she said. “With turbulence, comes opportunity.” Read more.

Featured Alumni Engagement

Just Ask allows alumni and students to reach out to alumni with career questions as simply as sending an email. We encourage you to respond if a student reaches out to you or use it yourself to connect with fellow alumni for advice. Here's how others have been using the platform lately:

Question: "I am struggling with choosing which path to take because I'm not set on a particular career. I like the philosophy of political science. I like that economics allows me to practice math, logic, and reasoning in a challenging way that is different from reading. I like that international studies allows me to diversify and explore different departments including political science, economics, and sociology. I am also interested in minoring in Spanish and studying abroad. I already have my diversification requirements fulfilled. What other factors should I consider when deciding what to major in and narrowing down my options?" (30 Alumni Contacted)

Response: "It sounds like you’ve thought this through a lot, more than I did, and all three options could lead somewhere interesting. Quest for Justice sealed poli sci for me because it was philosophical but grounded in real life.... Picking a major is hard, especially at Kenyon, but the beauty of a liberal arts education is that everything connects and you’re never fully locked in. Happy to answer any questions." (Among 3 Responses)
