NSGC Conference and Alumni Reunion
Our program alumni were well-represented at the NSGC Annual Conference, held on November 18 - 22, 2020. Many of us were able to catch up at our first ever virtual alumni reunion!

Congratulations to Rachel Mills for her amazing work as Chair of the NSGC Annual Conference Program Planning Committee!

"The role of the Annual Conference Program Planning Committee is to review and select session proposals that build the bulk of the AC educational content," shares Rachel. "I have served on the committee for 5 years and it has been my most rewarding volunteer activity to date. Although pivoting to a virtual format was challenging, NSGC has an amazing staff, volunteers and community who provided amazing support through the process. Although the AC looks a little different this year, it is more accessible to members than ever and provides the ability to feature more educational content and more CEUs." Rachel will pass the baton to program graduate Melanie Hardy who is now the Vice Chair of the NSGC Annual Conference Planning Committee. Congratulations, Rachel and Melanie!

Alumni Reunion - Wednesday, November 18, 2020

As always, the alumni reunion was a great opportunity to re-connect with each other, learn about program updates, and make new connections with program alumni, faculty and current students. Given the virtual nature of the reunion, many were able to attend that might not have been able to during an in-person conference. Cohorts enjoyed class reunions in respective breakout rooms and networking with those practicing in similar geographic regions was also a highlight. Participants could also "visit" with those in different breakout rooms as desired. Thanks to everyone that participated! Below are the two screenshots necessary to capture everyone who attended the reunion.

All students from the Class of 2020 submitted abstracts to NSGC this year. All were accepted and presented for a total of 7 poster presentations and 1 platform presentation. Way to represent, Class of 2020!

Congratulations and thank you to Adam Buchanan ('04) for serving as President of the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) in 2020. His leadership during the pandemic was critical in guiding our profession through challenging times. Adam presented a plenary session on evaluating service delivery models titled "Meeting patients where they are: improving access to genetic counseling while maintaining high-quality care"

Rachel Mills ('08), Research and Capstone Coordinator), Andrea Durst ('05), and Aimee (Durrett) Morrow ('20) presented the workshop "First Steps: Needs Assessments and Planning When Developing Patient Resources"

Lori Carpenter ('09) and Ashley Supik ('09) presented the Educational Breakout Session "Delivering Genetic Counseling: experiences, insights and outcomes across disparate settings"

On the final day of the conference, Melanie Hardy ('11) and UNCG Clinical Assistant Professor Rebecca Mathews lead the post-conference symposium "Learning in a digital world: Adapting to remote education and supervision
