Humberto López Castillo,

MD, PhD, CPH, CMI-Spanish

Humberto López Castillo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Central Florida. López Castillo holds an MEd (Postsecondary Education) from the Latin American University for Science and Technology (ULACIT; Panama) and a MSc (Pediatric Clinical Sciences) from the University of Panama.

Lisa Newberry,

APRN-BC, FNP, LHRM

Lisa joined UCF Student Health Services from University Behavioral Center, where she held the positions of Chief Nursing Officer and APRN. Lisa earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA. Continuing her education, she received her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix, and her Advanced Registered Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from UCF. She is also a Licensed Health Care Risk Manger. Lisa’s areas of specialty are family practice, women’s health and mental health.

Jorge Lopez, LMHC 

Jorge is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Saint Xavier University Chicago and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Education with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Central Florida. Jorge has a specialty in treating substance use issues. Prior to coming to UCF Jorge worked for a non-profit agency treating substance use issues in both Outpatient and Residential settings. Jorge’s theoretical orientation focuses on the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness and Person Centered Therapy.

Collier Shepherd, LMHC

Collier is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. His education includes a Bachelor of Art in psychology from the University of Mississippi, a Master of Science in Health and Sport Sciences with an emphasis in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Memphis, and a Master of Art in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Alabama. Collier’s theoretical approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based interventions.

Melissa Smith, PMD, ILO

Melissa Smith’s career began in 1995 as a Fire Explorer at Altamonte Springs Fire Department as a 16 year old high schooler. She continued her education as an EMT student at Seminole State, operated at American Ambulance for approximately 10 years, rising to Operations Supervisor, Critical Care paramedic and Human Resources Manager before moving to Orange County Fire Rescue as a Paramedic and move to Quality Assurance. During that time, she has worked at several Emergency Departments and theme parks.  In 2018, Orlando Health hired her as their EMS Liaison and she has been helping Region 5 Public Safety with Training, Education and Communication.

Lauren Popeck, MPH, RD, LD/N

Lauren Popeck is a Registered Dietitian and a Clinical Nutrition Manager at Orlando Health.  Lauren has been with Orlando Health for 10 years serving in various inpatient and outpatient roles.  Currently, Lauren is leading a large team of dietitians at 6 different locations including ORMC, South Seminole Hospital, the Orlando Health Cancer Institute, as well as Primary Care, Digestive Health, and Bariatrics.  Prior to that she served as a U.S. Army Dietitian as the chief of clinical dietetics for 4 years on Active Duty and 2 years in the U.S. Army reserves.  Lauren earned her Bachelor of Dietetics degree from Harding University, in Searcy, AR and a Masters of Public Health degree from the University of Florida.
