Haiti Kid Camera Project continued...

With longtime partner MEJHAM, in 2016, Martin's group launched a student mentorship program to create student instructor roles. The student instructors attend workshops each summer and have a keen interest in photography and teaching other students. They attend a two-hour morning class where they work on their own photography projects and learn teaching techniques as well. In the afternoons, they team up to lead different lessons and activities for the regular students. Their activities might include taking cameras out into the local community, leading photo critiques, creative writing exercises and more.

One Bird's mission is to create a sustainable infrastructure where technical skills and enthusiasm for photography and video are passed on and can be accessed whether instructors are there or not. Along with One Bird co-founder Tara Malik and UNO professor emeritus Yvelyne Germain McCarthy, Martin has worked closely with Haitians Evens Mevoit, Bruno Germain and Moise Mozart Germaine to make this dream a reality.
