Savoie College of Engineering
Student Visits to Savoie College of Engineering continued...

On Tuesday, November 15th, 30 middle school girls from Pierre A. Capdau Charter School received an interactive tour exploring engineering disciplines. This tour was initiated in collaboration with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. The young mentees received hands-on demos of the Mechanics & Materials Lab, the Towing Tank and a cutting demonstration by ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) & ACI (American Concrete Institute). The tour ended with a pizza party mixer with NSBE members.
On Friday, October 28th, 13 high school students from the St. Charles Satellite Center and their teacher toured the Engineering building. Faculty and students from all engineering programs presented demos and discussed engineering with high school students. The demos included breaking a concrete cylinder in the Mechanics of Materials Lab, testing DC motors in the Entergy Energy Conversion Lab, 3D printing in the Advanced Manufacturing Lab and the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Towing Tank. The tour featured a special laser show with a Halloween theme in the Dohse Engineering Auditorium.

On Thursday, November 7th, several students taking ENGR 1003 (Introduction to Engineering) at the New Orleans Career Center (NOCC) toured the Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering from morning to early afternoon. The College of Engineering offers ENGR 1003 to NOCC and to several high schools as part of the dual-enrollment program at the University of New Orleans. Through this class, students are given the opportunity to learn about engineering and to be exposed to different engineering topics and programs. They also learn more about the University of New Orleans and our College of Engineering. Students toured different facilities in the building including the Advanced Manufacturing Lab, the Entergy Energy Conversion Lab and the Towing Tank.
