College of Business Administration Fall MAMBO continued ...
From Aug. 7 - 11, this three-day hybrid orientation helped immerse students in everything UNO, including transitioning into the university, learning about events and learning how to stay connected. MAMBO is an acronym for Move-In Day, Academic Preparation, Making Memories, Building Community and Orientation.
College day varied from college to college across the university, and for the College of Business Administration, the day was structured in five steps. First, Dean Pam Kennett-Hensel welcomed the new students. Following her introduction, Accounting Chair Dr. Ray Rodriguez presented a mock lecture he called “Accounting Everywhere,” introducing the students to accounting in a way that made the subject easily accessible and appealing. A Q&A then followed the lecture, and next, the students were given a tour of Kirschman Hall. Finally, the students individually met with their advisors.
Assistant Dean Enjilee Dunn, commented on the in-depth orientation experience: “This class was probably the most engaging class because they had entrepreneurial spirits.” Noting the students’ interest in Dr. Rodriquez’s accounting problem, she laughed and suggested, “At 18, I probably would not have asked that question – good job!” She explained that the orientation day is a helpful way for students to transition to college. COBA had more than 80 students attending that day, which Dunn said was a larger class than last Fall.
This orientation process is a valuable, helpful and exciting experience that has helped many incoming students and will continue to do so as the process becomes more intricate and engaging.
