Dr. Poirrier continued ...
Dr. Poirrier’s research focus was on benthic restoration ecology and his area of study was mainly in the Lake Pontchartrain region. He made significant contributions to our understanding of estuarine submersed aquatic vegetation and seagrass restoration, evaluation of artificial fishing reefs, effects of saltwater intrusion and hypoxia on benthic community structure and the benefits of restoring Rangia clam populations.

Dr. Poirrier trained 30 graduate students over his career, many of whom continue to contribute to the study and restoration of the Gulf of Mexico region. Even after he retired from teaching, he still was an active researcher.
