Dr. Edwin Russo continued...


Dr. Russo was born on June 4, 1938 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He received his bachelor's degree from Tulane University 1962 and a master’s in mechanical engineering from LSU in 1964. He began teaching mechanical engineering at then-LSUNO in 1964 and finished his mechanical engineering doctorate at LSU while teaching and working for Walk-Haydel, NASA Boeing and Stennis. He was proud to have worked on the Apollo 11 mission's shuttle tank program and to play a part in putting the first man on the moon.
Ed taught dynamics, heat transfer and thermodynamics for 35 years. He rose from assistant professor, to associate professor and finally tenured professor of mechanical and electrical engineering in the UNO College of Engineering. He helped with the college's accreditation for ABET and was a member of MENSA, LES and ASME. He served as chair of UNO's mechanical engineering department twice. He was a member of Sigma Pi Sigma and was a professional registered engineer in mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering.
Dr. Russo won the UNO Outstanding Teacher Award several times in the 1970s and 80s and was very proud to receive those honors. His dedication to his students was paramount, and he fostered a great love of learning among them all. His students admired his passion for teaching, as well as his empathy and kindness. Ed touched many lives and will be forever missed by his family, friends and students.
