BCCC Spotlight the Employer continued ...

1Team Events representative, Lance Dennis, revisited for Spotlight the Employer on Thursday, September 19. He highlighted all the events and that will take place during the week of the Super Bowl and encouraged students to apply to work for the week-long NFL Experience event. Students can gain valuable experience in hosting welcome committees and managing volunteer teams and can improve their leadership skills by heading up the sports experiences for tourists and football enthusiasts during the largest sporting event of the year.

Leigh Rickel, representing Northwestern Mutual, LLC of New Orleans, hosted the Spotlight the Employer luncheon in Kirschman Hall on September 24. Many students eagerly attended this session to learn more about the benefits of NW Mutual internships. As Northwestern's college recruiter, Rickel seeks interns each year, and this internship opportunity is consistently one of the most fruitful for HBCOBA undergraduates interested in finance, insurance and accounting.

Jessica Herring, representative and recruiter for Waffle House, Inc., presented on Pathways to Waffle House Management on September 26. Students interested in management and hospitality learned more about restaurant management, disaster management, community outreach and more.
Herring hosts Spotlights each semester to bring knowledge to students, and the BCCC is thankful for her support and the motivation and opportunities she gives to HBCOBA students!

On September 26, the college held Resumania, our resume review event where students can have their resumes reviewed by professionals, including instructor Gordon Payne, instructor Jaimee Carreras, Dr. Cherie Trumbach and others. Students were given detailed, individual attention and suggestions to proofread, improve and expand their resumes.
Though “Resumania” only occurs once each semester, the BCCC is always available to aid students in improving their resumes.
Hancock Whitney Bank hosted the October 1 Spotlight event, where they discussed internship opportunities and careers in the banking industry.

The Hancock-Whitney team guided students through a presentation on the variety of job opportunities in banking and gave students advice on acing job interviews.
On October 8, the Port of New Orleans hosted a Spotlight for accounting and engineering majors. The Port of Orleans focuses on management operations, strategy, logistics and supply chain management. More than 50 students attended and learned about job opportunities and the benefits that the Port provides to the Greater New Orleans area.
Representing the Port of New Orleans were Garri Brown, chief people & culture officer; Chris Gilmore, director of engineering & environmental; John Guidry, director of terminal and waterfront operations; and Charlene Rollins, director of financial reporting & forecasting.
This event was well-attended by both the colleges of engineering and business. We are grateful to Sean Edgley, director of the Center for Equity and Diversity in Engineering, for his participation.
The Business Career Coaching Center (BCCC) and the College of Business Undergraduate Advising Office designed Spotlight the Employer to allow students to meet employers while offering companies and professional groups a chance to recruit UNO COBA students. The BCCC has a full calendar of Spotlight the Employer lunches lined up this semester. If your company or professional group would like to host a luncheon on campus in future semesters, please email bizcareers@uno.edu.
Job and internship opportunities are updated regularly on the BCCC Jobs Board, which you can access at the UNO BizCareers Jobs Board.
