Celebrating 53 Years

We celebrate birthdays every day at Woman’s Hospital. Today is a special one as we celebrate the 53rd birthday of Woman’s Hospital. Since 1968, Woman’s has grown from a small community obstetrical hospital to a national leader in women’s and family-centered care. Thank you for celebrating with us.

Meet the Board

Rose Hudson (Secretary/Treasurer) is President and CEO of Louisiana Lottery Corporation. She was elected to the Woman’s Hospital Board of Directors in 2016 and was reelected in 2019. She previously served as an inaugural trustee for Foundation for Woman’s Board of Trustees. Rose is the Past President of the Multi-State Lottery Association. Locally, she serves on the board for the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, is a Mary Bird Perkins Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center board member emeritus, and has recently served on the board of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. Rose received a master’s degree in public administration from LSU and earned a Bachelor of Arts in urban studies and public policy from Dillard University.
“I had the opportunity to experience an immersion day. I spent time in different departments and areas of the hospital and it really gave me an up-close look at the high-quality personal care given to our patients. EACH person, whether involved with direct or indirect care, recognized their role in the overall success of the organization. That experience has stayed with me and is one that I think of each time I walk into the boardroom."

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW)

Today is the first day of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (Nov. 18-24.) Antimicrobials are used to fight diseases and they include antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic medicines. This week aims to increase awareness of antimicrobial resistance and to encourage best practices to avoid the spread of drug-resistant infection which makes infections harder to treat. What you can do:
  • Prevent infections - if there’s no infection, there is no need to worry about one that can’t be treated.
  • Tracking -  helps hospitalists stay aware of threats and remain vigilant about signs of new resistance.
  • Antibiotic stewardship - prescribe antibiotics only when necessary
